Mary Hamilton Artist
Mary Hamilton is a landscape artist who was born in Liverpool but has been living and working in Scotland for over thirty years. She presently resides in the beautiful village of Killearn, a gateway to the breathtaking landscape of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Achieving a B. Ed. in Art and English in Lancaster in 1981, she has used her passion for art to stimulate and inspire primary and secondary children in all areas of their education, while simultaneously intensifying her own creativity and self expression. Now a dedicated full time painter, she works predominantly in oils, exploring the rich intricate tapestry of her natural surroundings, encouraging the viewer to study the world sensitively, with a new and unique vision.
My paintings are a celebration of everything I can sense around me, the dynamic tapestry of nature in all its forms. From the delicate flower patterns in the garden captivating the senses, to the timeless beauty of the untamed Scottish landscape with its sloping hills and rugged craggy mountains. Haunting misty Lochs and wild dramatic Irish coastlines create an endless source of inspiration to me, while shadows playing among the trees of the woodlands create patterns between the branches, which form decorative motif-like compositions which are so enticing. Above all, the flow of colour and the evocative oscillating light which changes with every season can alter the atmosphere in a second, transforming your mood and changing your emotions.
My paintings often begin with spontaneous outdoor studies, capturing moments in time. They are brought to life through the richness and depth of the oil paints with delightful effect. The landscape around me is captivating, whether calm and serene, or wild and dangerous.
